The Architecture of Light (2017)
Lead artist in collaborative project with Down County Museum and Holy Family Primary School, Downpatrick.
Workshops introduced pupils and staff to opaque and translucent materials, the techniques of hand carving stone, along with site visits to the medieval ruins of Inch Abbey and Down County Museum, opening up a new dialogue about stone, light, local history and architecture.
Older pupils created carvings in sandstone which were sited in the grounds of the school and younger pupils engraved plaster blocks which were then cast in porcelain by ceramic artist, Anne Butler. The porcelain casts were set in a bespoke wooden cabinet, back lit to create an illuminated artwork in the school’s entrance way.
